As the world welcomes 2025 with celebrations and aspirations, my heart remains heavy with concern for Myanmar—my homeland—still ensnared in turmoil and suffering.
The nation continues to grapple with a relentless power struggle. The military junta, facing significant territorial losses to ethnic armed organizations and resistance forces, has intensified its brutal tactics. Civilians bear the brunt of this aggression, enduring airstrikes, forced conscription, and widespread human rights abuses. The economy has deteriorated, leaving families in poverty and uncertainty.
In 2024, the resilience of Myanmar's people shone through. Women emerged as pivotal figures in the resistance, serving as fighters, medics, and organizers, despite facing imprisonment and torture. Their unwavering commitment underscores the nation's enduring spirit. The Irrawaddy
Conversely, the junta's alliances have raised concerns. China's overt support, including hosting junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and pressuring ethnic armies to cease hostilities, has emboldened the regime. This backing undermines international efforts to restore democracy and peace in Myanmar. The Irrawaddy
As we step into the new year, I extend my deepest prayers to the people of Myanmar. May 2025 bring safety, freedom, and the dawn of true democracy. I urge the global community to recognize Myanmar's plight and support its journey toward peace and justice.
